At Crown BJJ, promotions are a celebration of your dedication, growth, and commitment to the art. Our system is designed to be transparent, motivating, and focused on genuine skill development.
Stripes on your belt are an important measure of your consistency and developing skill between belt levels. They show that you are consistently attending class, absorbing techniques, and contributing to our positive training environment.
While every student's journey is unique, stripes are generally awarded after approximately 30-75 classes. This is a guideline, not a rule.
Stripes recognize consistent attendance, a growing understanding of fundamental techniques, and a positive attitude that aligns with our gym's etiquette standards.
All promotions are ultimately at the discretion of our instructors, who observe your daily progress and readiness.

Belt promotions are significant milestones that reflect a deep integration of skill, knowledge, and character. We believe in recognizing true competency.

Testing confirms readiness—your daily performance and consistency throughout the quarter are what earn the promotion. Show up, train hard, and embody the values of Crown BJJ.
It varies, but a general guideline is every 30-75 classes. Progress is based on consistency and skill development, not just time.
Our head instructors make all promotion decisions based on their observations of your skills, attendance, and attitude in class.
No problem. We will ensure you receive your stripe or belt during the next class you attend.
We respect the work you've put in. Please speak with an instructor for an assessment so we can place you appropriately within our curriculum.
Competing can accelerate your learning and highlight your skills, which may influence promotion timing. However, it is not a requirement for promotion. Learn more on our Competition Team page.
