Miyo Strong—known in the community as “UtahJitsMama”—is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Johnny Carlquist and James Gardner of Unified Jiu Jitsu. She brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and heart to Crown BJJ, where she serves as the Head Professor of our Women’s Program.

Miyo is widely respected both on and off the mats for her impact in the martial arts and self-defense communities. In addition to her BJJ accomplishments, she is the Program Director for the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, where she leads the innovative and trauma-informed self-defense initiative, Smart Defense. Through this program, Miyo has empowered thousands of women, teens, and survivors with life-saving skills, confidence, and healing through movement, community, and education.
With a competition-proven skill set, a compassionate teaching style, and a mission-driven approach, Miyo embodies the perfect balance of strength, empathy, and technical excellence. She is committed to helping women build confidence, protect themselves, and find their voice through Jiu Jitsu.
